Biography
I am from a small town in South Alabama named Atmore. While there, I received most of my formal education, including my first introduction to photography and graphic design. After receiving my bachelor's degree, I moved to Southern California where I lived for over 20 years. In 2023, I relocated back down South, currently residing in Gulfport, MS.
Photography: I’ve been a photographer for many decades. I have explored many different genres to include events, portraits, travel, nature and more. Travel and nature became my primary focus. I got my first "exposure" to photography back in the 1980’s with a Kodak instant camera and the classic 24/36 exposure 35mm roll film. While attending college, I enrolled in an “Introduction to Photography” class. I was so intrigued with the entire process of capturing each scene and developing the exposures in a dark room. That experience really ignited my passion for photography. Years later, I transitioned to digital cameras. That enabled me to be able to capture a lot more exposures (shots) without the added expense of developing the film. As one who loves to travel and explore new areas, I'm sure to take my camera with me and capture those awe inspiring scenes that I come across.
Graphic Design: I have always had a curious, exploratory mindset. That most certainly extended into the graphic design space. In high school, I was exposed to photo manipulation at a basic level—sizing, document insertion, cropping, etc. That sparked my curiosity. I start to play around with Adobe Photoshop and later enrolled in a Photoshop class in junior college. I learned a lot with regards to working with images. This includes toning, color and exposure correction as well as various other photo manipulation techniques. My proficiency grew to such a level that I was able to get a full-time job as a graphic artist with the Montgomery Advertiser, one of the South's largest newspapers. I designed small ads all the way up to large, multi-page spreads for small and large companies.
Fine Art Expressions: Having a passion for photography and graphic design, I resolved to combine both of these outlets as a means to express myself creatively. Together, they fed into the exploration of my digital artistry. Add in my love of travel, nature and the great outdoors and you have all the ingredients for the creations of my Fine Art Expressions. Through trial and error over several years, I developed my own unique process I use to produce my fine art expressions. Click here to learn more about my artistic process.
As mentioned on the home page, I see art as much more than just a scene to behold. Rather, art can be a catalyst that can bring about positivity, spark ideas and even be an aid that fuel one's drive.
Throughout the years, my expressions have been available to art loves both locally at art fairs as well as across the United States via my website and social media outlets. It’s always a thrill to have the opportunity to engage in wholesome conversations about my artwork. In addition, my work has been on display at art shows, art galleries and other venues. It has been a fun-filled and rewarding journey thus far and I look forward to all of the joys that are yet to come!
